Robert Woodson, civil rights icon and founder and president of the Woodson Center, joined the American Ideals PAC’s nationwide online conversation about anti-Asian violence on February 9, 2023. Known to many as the “godfather” of the neighborhood empowerment movement, Woodson pointed out that defunding the police and maligning law enforcement are fundamentally at odds with reducing violent crime.
Noting that both blacks and Asians suffer from black crime, Woodson called for strengthening civic engagement and cooperation between the two communities. Additionally, he questioned the relevance and effectiveness of the Biden White House’s proposed remedies for reducing anti-Asian violence, and he urged the media to be more honest in reporting the crimes, including by identifying the race of perpetrators who are not white.
Woodson was introduced by Ying Ma, president of American Ideals PAC. Please view his remarks in the video player below.
